There are several options for grocery/supply stores. Including Mancelona Farmers Market, Family Fare Supermarket, Marathon Gas & Convenience Store, etc. Keep in mind, The Chalet is located in a rural setting, so be prepared to drive 15-20 minutes for food & supplies. The Carefree Cove Resort has a convenience store, which is located 7 minutes away, which offers an assortment of groceries, fresh pizza, and hardware.  If general, your best bet is to prepare in advance and bring enough food & beverages for the duration of your stay.

It’s not great. We do have a 4G signal booster installed, but depending on your carrier, you may only get 1-2 bars (Verizon works best – typically 3 bars). Your best bet is to switch to Wi-Fi enabled calling. If you do this, you won’t have any problems making or receiving calls. To learn how to set this up on your device, click below:

iPhone:

1. Go to Settings > Phone > Wi-Fi Calling and make sure that Wi-Fi Calling is on.
2. Restart your iPhone.
3. Connect to a different Wi-Fi network. Not all Wi-Fi networks work with Wi-Fi Calling.
4. Turn Wi-Fi Calling off and then on again.
5. Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset Network Settings.

Android*:

1. Turn on Wi-Fi and connect to a Wi-Fi network.
2. From the Home screen, tap the Apps icon.
3. Tap Settings.
4. If necessary, slide the Wi-Fi Switch right to the ON position.
5. Tap More connection settings.
6. Tap Wi-Fi Calling.
7. Select one of the these options: Wi-Fi Preferred. Cellular Network Preferred.

*  With so many Android models on the market, the above instructions may/may not be relevant. If these don’t work for your specific device, simply google “how to enable wifi calling on [your device]”

Dingman’s Tavern has excellent food and great prices. Their Steak Bites are amazing, and are cut from either Prime Rib or Fillet. Tuesdays are $2 burger nights, and Wednesday’s they offer 75c wings, which are both outstanding. Make sure you say hello to the owners Bob & Carrin, and let them know you’re staying at the Birchwood Cove Chalet!

If you’re willing to drive a bit further, Grayling has a much larger selection of Restaurants.

Absolutely! As of December 2018 we have 1 49″ LG Smart TV (49SK8000), which includes Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, and HULU service. More TVs will be added soon. There are over 130 channels included with the LG Content Service.  WE DO NOT HAVE STANDARD CABLE. For Sports, navigate to the HULU App by pressing the HOME button on the remote, and toggling over to HULU. You’ll then see a full line up of sports.

There are thousands of titles available on Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, and HULU, all of which are included. However, for premium movies which require rental/purchase, we ask that you purchase those on your own device (phone/tablet/computer) and cast to the Chromecast, which is plugged into the HDMI 1 port on the TV.

Before you begin casting

1. Connect your mobile device, tablet, or computer to the “Birchwood Cove Chalet” network.
2. The mobile device, tablet or computer you are using to cast must be on the same Wi-Fi network as the Chromecast. Note: To allow guests to cast without being on your Wi-Fi network, please read How to set up guest mode.
3. You must be running the latest version of the Chromecast-enabled app. You can always double check that you are on the latest version by visiting the Google Play Store or Apple App Store and checking for any app updates.

Cast from Chromecast-enabled apps to your TV

1. Make sure the mobile device, tablet or computer you are using to cast is on the same Wi-Fi network as the Chromecast (Birchwood Cove Chalet).
2. Open a Chromecast-enabled app.
3. Tap the Cast button . Note: The Cast button isn’t located in the same place on all Chromecast-enabled apps.
4. Tap the device you’d like to cast to.
5. When you’re connected, the Cast button will turn color, letting you know you’re connected.
6. You can now cast videos, movies and TV shows directly to your TV.
7. To stop casting, tap the Cast button  Disconnect.

Trail 76 (Segment3) is very close to The Chalet. There is a cut through (depending on the size of your rig) right across the street from the Pickerel State Campground on the other side of the lake. This is about a half mile from the front door of The Chalet. Otherwise, there is another access 9/10th of a mile on the left hand side of Sunset Trail (click here for directions). From there you continue straight for 1/2 mile and you’re there.

We highly recommend using GroomedTrail.com which is free to use after registering an account.

There is plenty of parking at The Chalet. There is room for 2-3 cars in front of The Chalet, with room for at least 6 additional vehicles behind the Pole Barn. Additional space is available for parking your Snowmobiles/Trailers, etc. Please reach out if you have any other specific questions.

Yes, the internet is very good. You’ll get full signal all the way out to the furthest point of the dock, and decent signal out to the mailbox.

Empty all garbage cans and place in the Garbage bins behind the Pole Barn.

Start a load of laundry for all the towels you’ve used.

Make sure all windows & doors are locked.

The LG Mega Washer & Dryer is very easy to use. Simply press the power button, select which cycle you want to run, and then hit “Play”. This is the largest washer & dryer available (at the time of posting) on the market, so it will significantly reduce the amount of time it takes to get laundry done.

Yes, detergent is available for your use. Please only use the provided detergent. In case of allergies, you may bring your own, but ensure you only use HD rated detergent.

We do offer a range of spices. However, keep in mind that the nearest supermarket is located 15-20 minutes away, so if you need something specific, it’s best to bring it with you.

Yes there is! To be more specific, it’s a Char-Broil Performance Stainless 4-Burner Liquid Propane Gas Grill with 1 Side Burner.

We have a wide assortment of pots, pans and utensils. There is also a crock pot, tea pot, toaster, and microwave (2) available for your use.

As of December 2018, The Chalet will accommodate 10 in beds. There is a queen size Aerobed, which is also available which takes that number to 12. 3 twin size air mattresses are also available for kids, taking it to 15. Please see the breakdown below:

• Upper Level Master: King Size Bed
• Upper Level Loft (open to lower level): Daybed with Trundle (2 Twin Mattresses)
• Main Level North Bedroom: Queen Size Bed
• Main Level South Bedroom: Queen Size Bed
• Lower Level Bedroom: Queen Size Bed
• Air Mattress: 1 Queen, 3 Twin

There is not a snowmobile included or available for rent at the property. However, you’re certainly invited to bring your own, or rent from a local provider.
